“For God so loved the
world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes
in Him should not perish but have eternal life”
(John 3:16).
God loves YOU regardless of who you
are, what you have done or your social standing. God created you to
live in a relationship of love with Him. You and I, however, broke
that relationship by sin. Still, God continues to love us and
pursue us.
2. WE MESS UP/SIN
(a) You must admit that you are a
sinner—
“For all have sinned and
fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).
“Anyone, then, who knows
the right thing to do and fails to do it, commits sin” (James
4:17).
Because of this sin man is
separated from God
“For the wages of sin is
death” {spiritual separation from God} (Romans 6:23)
(b)
You must realize that you cannot bridge this gap and save yourself.
God loves you and me—even when we
sin. God loves us and forgives us not because we deserve it—we
don’t—but because he chooses to out of His love. Best of all we
can’t earn God’s love. It is His free gift to anyone who will say
“yes” to Jesus. We call this love and forgiveness GRACE.
“For by grace you have been saved
through faith, not of yourselves, it is a free gift from God not as
a result of works lest anyone should boast”. (Ephesians 2:8-9).
Jesus death on the cross creates a
bridge between us and God.
3. Jesus Christ is God’s only
provision for man’s sin
“God demonstrated His own
love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for
us” (Romans 5:8).
Jesus is the Only way to reconnect
to God.
“Jesus said, I am the
way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but
through Me” (John 14:6).
4. We must individually receive
Jesus Christ as our forgiver and leader.
“As
many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children
of God, even to those who believe in His name” (John 1:12).
RECEIVING CHRIST
is more than believing that Jesus was a real person. It is even
more than believing Jesus to be the Savior of the world. Receiving
Jesus involves turning to God from self (repentance) and trusting
Jesus to come into your life to forgive your sins and to make you
what He wants you to be. You receive Jesus by faith, as an act of
your will. It is making Jesus the “Chairman of the board,” the “Head
Coach,” the “Executive Officer” of your life. You do this simply by
asking!
If you would like to receive Jesus
as your Savior and Lord, here is a prayer that you may pray:
Father I am a sinner, I’ve blown it and I know I need you and want
you in my life to help me, to forgive me. Please forgive me of my
sins, come into my life and help me become the person you want me to
be. Thank you for forgiving my sins, coming into my life, and
giving me eternal life. I open the door of my life and receive You as my Savior and Lord.
If you prayed that prayer you have
been justified…..before the judge and King….You have accepted the
price that was paid on your behalf by Jesus Christ. You are now
free from sin and its penalties and free to serve and live the
Christian life.
If you prayed that prayer we would
like to hear from you. We will do our best to answer any questions
you might have, and help you begin the exciting journey called the
Christian Life. You can contact us at 582-2001 and ask for Rev.
Terry Bentley or Ann Lee.
5. How Can You Know That Jesus Is
In Your Life.
“Behold I stand at the
door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will
come in to him, and will dine with him, and He with Me” (Revelations
3:20).
You can know that Jesus came based
on the trustworthiness of God Himself and His Word. We know He is
in our hearts because He said He would be. Our assurance is not
based on feelings, but on Jesus' Promises!!
We also have the witness of the
Spirit:
“It is that very Spirit bearing
witness with our spirit that we are children of God” (Romans 8:16).
For John Wesley, the founder of
Methodism, this witness came at a meeting on Aldersgate Street,
London. He wrote: “…about a quarter before nine, while he was
describing the change which God works in the heart, through faith in
Christ, I felt my heart strangely warmed. I felt I did trust in
Christ, Christ alone, for my salvation: and an assurance was given
to me that He had taken away my sins, even mine, and saved me from
the law of sin and death.” (Wesley’s Journal, May 24, 1738).
For some, this inward confidence
comes gradually. For others, it is a sudden discovery at the moment
of faith. For some it is a very emotional experience, for others it
is a quiet warming of the heart. However it happens—EACH OF US
CAN HAVE ASSURANCE THAT CHRIST IS IN US AND WE ARE IN CHRIST.
