As we approach 2022, it’s become abundantly clear that our world has been on a fast from God’s word, whether done consciously or subconsciously. We are busy people. Busy is today’s lifestyle. It’s easy to become entrapped in being busy (success, activities, sports, etc.). An acronym for busy is “being under satan’s yoke.” Busy is a dangerous place to be during the times in which we live. When we are busy, we can’t always see the enemy coming or the traps he sets for us until he kicks in our door and suddenly find ourselves fighting for our lives.
When we become too busy for God’s word, we fight our enemy without armor or weapon. Ephesians 6:10-18 tells us to ‘be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power,’ to ‘put on the full armor of God’ and that ‘our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, authorities, and powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.’ The outline for our armor is clear, and the weapon for battle is the ‘sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.’ Now is not the time to fast from God’s word, now is the time to take up our weapon and be the standard that God has raised against this fallen world.

With that being said, for 200 years Guntersville First UMC has been the Lord’s standard in our community. Through worship/prayer, Bible study/discipleship, and outreach Guntersville First UMC has endeavored to help others become devoted and contagious followers of Jesus Christ. It’s time to reaffirm what the generations before us established, and that is knowing God’s word. Together we will read the Bible in 2022. We’ve prepared a Bible reading plan (see link above) and for those who have a Facebook (FB) account, we’ve also created a Facebook discussion group (see FB group button above).
While this world looks dark, Matthew 5:14-15 tells us that we are the ‘light of the world, a city on a hill’; we were not meant to be hidden, nor unprepared. So join us in reading the Bible together in 2022, prepare your hearts and make room for Him.
